ASPA Announces Next Editors-in-Chief of Public Administration Review
Paul Battaglio and Jeremy Hall to Take Helm of Public Administration’s Leading Professional Journal in 2018

The American Society for Public Administration today announced the selection of Paul Battaglio of the University of Texas at Dallas and Jeremy Hall of the University of Central Florida as the next editors-in-chief of Public Administration Review (PAR), the leading professional journal in public administration research, theory and practice. They will succeed James Perry, whose term concludes at the end of 2017.

As editors-in-chief, Battaglio and Hall will take the helm of a journal that has seen significant growth in its readership, relevance and impact. PAR sits atop Google Scholar's Public Policy and Administration rankings and has jumped ten spots in Thomson Reuters' Journal Citation Reports. Its articles were downloaded nearly 1 million times in 2015 alone.

"The selection of Paul Battaglio and Jeremy Hall is the culmination of a rigorous, competitive process that reflects the stature and reputation of ASPA's flagship journal," ASPA President Susan Gooden said. "It also reflects the expertise, creativity and enthusiasm that Paul and Jeremy will bring to the position—skills that will enable them to build on the current editorial team's successes and take PAR to even greater heights."

Sharing full supervisory and editorial roles, Battaglio and Hall will work with Perry, distinguished professor emeritus at Indiana University, over the next year on publication, timeline and other transition matters. Published bi-monthly by Wiley, PAR is the journal of record for public administrators, with more than 12,000 institutional and individual subscribers.

“For more than 75 years, PAR has filled a unique niche in serving academic and practitioners alike," ASPA Executive Director Bill Shields said. "From addressing current public sector trends to forecasting new ones, the journal is the central platform for ASPA to fulfill its mission: Advancing excellence in public service. It is a mission that is more critical than ever."

"We are profoundly grateful to ASPA's leadership for selecting our proposal,” Battaglio and Hall said. "The PAR editor-in-chief role brings with it great opportunity and responsibility. We will work tirelessly to build on the journal's accomplishments in ways that will serve the field of public administration—both those who study and practice it—exceedingly well.”

Kick off your 2017 e-learning experince with Senator Bob Graham! ASPA is delighted to host a BookTalk with Florida's distinguished former Senator (1987-2005), Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and two-term governer as he and his communications director, Chris Hand, talk about how citizens can make government work for themselves.

BookTalk: America, The Owner’s Manual
Jan. 4, 2017 | 1 p.m. ET
Presenters:
Senator Bob Graham
Chris Hand

While it is not surprising Americans recently channeled their frustrations with “government” into votes for contenders who pledge to end business as usual, the truth is we don’t have to pin our hopes for greater participation on any one candidate. All of us have a say—if we learn, master and practice the skills of effective citizenship. Senator Bob Graham will help you learn how to make government work for you.

Health Impact Assessment
Jan. 17, 2017 | 2 p.m. ET
Presenters:
Gregory Acs, The Urban Institute
Rebecca Morley, Health Impact Project
Steven Teutsch, Fielding School of Public Health, UCLA, Public Health Institute and Schaeffer Center, University of Southern California
Richard Greene, Moderator, Barrett & Greene and Center for Accountability and Performance (CAP)

Questions abound about the aspects of a person's life that affect their health, especially as governments try to create the most effective health care system at the most affordable price. The "social determinants of health" dramatically affect the ability of individuals to care for themselves and interact with the health system. This webinar, conducted in partnership with ASPA's Center for Accountability and Performance, features three expert panelists who will discuss health impact assessments, predictive modeling tools and a microsimulation tool that uses data from birth to middle age to examine the circumstances and actions that can provide powerful levers to promote health.

BookTalk: Public Policymaking by Private Organizations
Jan. 24 | 1 p.m.
Presenters:
A. Lee Fritschler
Catherine Rudder

From accrediting doctors and lawyers to setting industry and professional standards, private groups establish many of the public policies in today’s advanced societies. Yet this important role of non-governmental groups is largely ignored by those who study, teach or report on public policy issues. Public Policymaking by Private Organizations sheds light on policymaking by private groups, which are unaccountable to the general public and often even to governments.
