ASPA Announces Election Results
Terms begin March 2017
 ASPA is pleased to announce the following individuals have been elected to ASPA's leadership positions:

- District III Representative: Terry Murphy
- District IV Representative: J. Paul Blake

- International Director: Allan Rosenbaum

The Vice President will serve for the next four years on the National Council—as Vice President, President-Elect, President and Immediate Past President sequentially. Each District Representative and the International Director will serve a three-year term; the Student Representative will serve a one-year term.
Thanks to all those who took part in ASPA's democratic process. We look forward to working with these leaders in the coming year.
ASPA Announces Next Editors-in-Chief of Public Administration Review
Paul Battaglio and Jeremy Hall to Take Helm of Public Administration’s Leading Professional Journal in 2018
The American Society for Public Administration today announced the selection of Paul Battaglio of the University of Texas at Dallas and Jeremy Hall of the University of Central Florida as the next editors-in-chief of Public Administration Review (PAR), the leading professional journal in public administration research, theory and practice. They will succeed James Perry, whose term concludes at the end of 2017.
As editors-in-chief, Battaglio and Hall will take the helm of a journal that has seen significant growth in its readership, relevance and impact. PAR sits atop Google Scholar's Public Policy and Administration rankings and has jumped ten spots in Thomson Reuters' Journal Citation Reports. Its articles were downloaded nearly 1 million times in 2015 alone.
"The selection of Paul Battaglio and Jeremy Hall is the culmination of a rigorous, competitive process that reflects the stature and reputation of ASPA's flagship journal," ASPA President Susan Gooden said. "It also reflects the expertise, creativity and enthusiasm that Paul and Jeremy will bring to the position—skills that will enable them to build on the current editorial team's successes and take PAR to even greater heights."
Sharing full supervisory and editorial roles, Battaglio and Hall will work with Perry, distinguished professor emeritus at Indiana University, over the next year on publication, timeline and other transition matters. Published bi-monthly by Wiley, PAR is the journal of record for public administrators, with more than 12,000 institutional and individual subscribers.
“For more than 75 years, PAR has filled a unique niche in serving academic and practitioners alike," ASPA Executive Director Bill Shields said. "From addressing current public sector trends to forecasting new ones, the journal is the central platform for ASPA to fulfill its mission: Advancing excellence in public service. It is a mission that is more critical than ever."

The "social determinants of health" dramatically affect the ability of individuals to care for themselves and interact with the health system. Yet this important role of non-governmental groups is largely ignored by those who study, teach or report on public policy issues. Public Policymaking by Private Organizations sheds light on policymaking by private groups, which are unaccountable to the general public and often even to governments.

 ASPA is pleased to announce the 2017 class of Founders' Fellows. This program recognizes outstanding students and new professionals (within three years of their graduation) in the field of public service and public administration.

ASPA Launches Partnership with SmartBrief to Provide Daily News Digest
ASPA is pleased to announce it has partnered with SmartBrief to provide its members and others in the public administration community with a daily e-news digest. Beginning Jan. 9, 2017, those now signed up to receive ASPA’s e-communications will receive this newsletter.
ASPA SmartBrief will take the place of GovManagement Daily, whose editor, John Martin, is retiring on Dec. 23, 2016. Providing a daily look at state, local and federal policy and administration news from across the country, ASPA SmartBrief will continue to serve as a unique and specific news service for those involved in public administration, policy, education and related fields.
"We appreciate the service that John and GovManagement Daily have provided to ASPA members and the broader public administration community for nearly a decade," noted ASPA Communications Chief Karen Garrett. "We are excited to begin this new relationship and continue providing members with the daily news feed they've grown to expect and value."
Those now receiving GovManagement Daily will experience a slight lull in the service during the holiday period as ASPA transitions from one service to the other. Service will resume on Jan. 9.
Non-members currently receiving GovManagement Daily who want be on the SmartBrief distribution list should contact Karen Garrett to confirm their subscription. Other questions may be directed to Karen, as well.

 ASPA is pleased to announce the 2017 editorial calendar for PA TIMES. This calendar guides content for both patimes.org and PA TIMES magazine. Each has its own author publication schedules and all members of our community are encouraged to submit articles and contribute to topics. Winter 2016-2017: Public Service Delivery for Aging Populations
Topics include unfunded pension liabilities, community development and urban planning for seniors, using social media to support seniors and government’s role in public health.
Spring 2017: Local, State and National Law Enforcement
Topics include policy/community relations, cybersecurity, hiring/training, minority populations and demographic perceptions, budgeting, community development and tribal issues.
Summer 2017: Demographic Shifts Across the U.S.

SENRA Student Paper Competition Nears Deadline
Graduate students are invited to submit their papers on any environmental topic for ASPA's Section on Environmental and Natural Resources Administration (SENRA) student paper competition. 2017 Transatlantic Dialogue Abstract Deadline Approaching
The 2017 Transatlantic Dialogue, to be held April 5-8 in Miami, will be hosted at Florida International University. Its theme, “Sustaining a Democratic Public Sector in an Era of Multiple Challenges and Constraints,” will address the issues involved with sustaining both an effective public sector and democratic governance. MassASPA Opens Annual Awards Nomination Process
The MassASPA Chapter’s annual awards program is accepting nominations for: the Robert H. (Tex) McClain Jr. Distinguished Public Administration Award, Marcia P. Crowley Distinguished Citizen Award and Distinguished Veteran Award. Please nominate public service colleagues whose accomplishments you believe should be recognized. ASPA South Florida Chapter Invites Scholarship Application
ASPA's South Florida Chapter annually awards the Natacha Seijas Women in Public Service Scholarship, valued between $500 and $1,000. Available to women, students must demonstrate a commitment to public service through voluntary community work or other participation in community organizations or activities. Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board Seeks Survey Participation
The Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) seeks input on the next steps of its reporting model and performance reporting projects. Stakeholder input will help identify the most important reporting model and performance reporting topics on which to focus. Please take a few minutes to complete the brief online survey. Your responses will be used in the aggregate; no individual, agency or company names will be disclosed. Provide your comments by Jan. 30, 2017.
Collaborative Website Launched between U.S. and NISPAcee
ASPA members are invited to participate in a new collaborative website aimed at spurring cross-national research between public administration scholars in the United States and their counterparts in Central and Eastern Europe. This website is a project generated between ASPA and the Network of Institutes and Schools of Public Administration in Central and Eastern Europe (NISPAcee). The goal is to aid researchers in searching for collaborators, initiating new research and providing a platform for the exchange of information on topical, methodological and geographical interests.
